Canada Day 1

Hello Everyone,

Well here I am at Camp 1 north of Klamath Falls, near Modoc Point. I trekked 15.15 miles today, which isn’t bad for my first shake down day.

Had a hard time deciding last night whether to start today. It wasn’t until about ten last night when my brother Tom asked if he had to get up early to drop me off. I had been looking at the weather forecast for the next ten days and it showed rain nine out of those days in the areas I would be in. I had to remind myself that everything, including the weather is what makes it a memorable experience. I have no control over the weather once I started anyway, so I said yes I am going, rain or shine.

I started off in Klamath and I have to admit a little nervous, mostly about the rain, and then my foot. As it turned out it never rained and my foot didn’t feel too bad. The temperature was in the fifties all day and cloudy as though it was going to pour any minute. My rain gear was close at hand.

I found a nice state park after about nine miles and considered camping there just to make it a short day. I decided to continue a few more miles, which turned out to be a mistakes as the road narrowed for the next five miles or so with no flat areas to camp. The road runs right next to North Klamath Lake, with the railroad track between and shear cliffs on the land side.

When I reached Modoc Point, the terrain opened up to forested areas with lots of places to camp. I picked a great spot and set up camp. Within ten minutes it began to rain and it rain most of the night.

I love the sound of the train and it’s horn, but was a little surprised, shocked actually, when I heard the horn of the train. Apparently I was camp near a dirt road crossing where the train has to sound it’s horn. Oh well, part of the experience.

Hopefully it will stop raining and I will hit the road again. I will send updates as it have time and cell service. Again, I am sending this on my phone so excuse any typos, spelling, etc. Please keep those positive thoughts and prayers going my way,

Ted
