Canada Day 4

Hello Everyone,

Here I am at Camp 4, about one miles from the junction of Highway 138, the road to Crater Lake. I had a long day and trekked 17.23 miles.

The morning was cold and I had wanted to get an early start, but the temperature was around 29 degrees and I didn’t want to get out of my sleeping bag. I looked at my one gallon water bottle and it was frozen. I stayed in my bag and tried to pack as much as I could without having to get out. I sleep in wool thermals to keep my bag clean and change them in the morning, so I hate those cold mornings, which has been almost every morning.

It’s only been four days and I am ready to eat real food instead of the freeze dried I have been having. I forget to mention that I found a little Mexican restaurant on my second day, in the middle of nowhere, and having real food was great no matter what it was. I try to eat well when at home, but out here, almost anything goes. But I have to say, the food was good and the owners were also so very friendly. I was surprised that as busy as they were that he sat down with me for a bit and asked about my trek.

My point in mentioning this was because the thought of real food motivated me today. I stopped at a little store, the only one along the whole stretch, and the woman there told me there was a restaurant about fourteen miles away. I had already gone two miles, and I figure only fourteen more today and I’ll be able to eat real food. Well, I went 15.23 miles more and never found it. Maybe tomorrow?

No rain today and the temperature was actually a little warmer during the day. It was good weather for walking and if it gets warmer I’ll be able to finally take if my wool thermals. By the time I set up tonight the temperature had already dropped to fifty and it’s in the low forties now.

And uneventful but nice day today. Hopefully I’ll update my blog tomorrow. Keep sending me the positive thoughts and prayers,

Ted
