Thursday, May 26, Day 4 on the Camino

Today was another day, or Zero Day, in Pamplona. Our apartment was in such a nice location and very reasonable and not much more than a hostel, especially split four ways.

We met a young girl named Sam that was trekking the Camino as a college graduation present and she joined us for the two days in Pamplona. As I had mentioned before, we are seeing the same faces over and over on the Camino and she was one of them.

Today was spent exploring a little more of the city. Just outside the old downtown area where we are stating the whole appearance of the city changes. It’s a typical modern city with traffic and hundreds of people walking the streets, but more for work or business rather than the tourists in the downtown area.

One of the things that I noticed was that there are very few heavy or overweight people walking the streets. I find it interesting in comparison to what you would see in our typical cities back in the U.S. I assume it may have something to do with the city being more condensed and people walking to work or shopping rather than driving great distances to shop and work. Maybe it’s their diet too, but with all the good and inexpensive food here I surely would not keep my weight down.

I could spend weeks here exploring the city with its rich history. Running of the Bulls would be fun, but I was told that because of so many injuries lately the city was considering limiting the participants. Apparently it’s gotten so crowded that people are packed in so tight that the runners get knock down by other runners or can’t dodge the bulls because the crowds. It would be a fun event to see anyway.

Tomorrow we will start start back on the Camino, and to do that we just have to step out the door because our street is the Camino. It was obvious this morning as I could hear the click click of the trekking poles of the pilgrims walking by.

Best wishes to all,
Ted
