Waiouru (Zero Day 2)

Today’s zero day was not even a question as it not only rained hard all night long but I could hear the wind gusting and pushing the rain against the window. I woke at my usual time and it was still pouring, so I just went back to sleep. Even when I got up a few hours later it was still pouring.

I basically layed in bed reading and watching Netflix. After noon I finally cleaned up and walked the two blocks into town to have lunch. By then the rain had lightened up but it still rained on and off most of the day.

Unfortunately, last night Ross thought he had gotten food poisoning from the lasagna I bought him for lunch yesterday at the military museum cafe. This morning he was worse and ended up in bed most of the day. His wife teaches some type of medical biology at the university and figured out what he possibly had. I am very thankful that didn’t happen to me!

After my lunch I walked over to the military’s residential neighborhood where the only market is in town. It’s a private store and open to the public but located on the base because the trainees aren’t allowed to leave the base. The residential area is not a restricted area for the public.

I came back and lounged around and watched Netflix and really enjoyed my cozy down time as I looked out the window and saw the rain. I did run out one more time to get Ross some milk for his tea as he was too sick to go out. Hopefully he gets better.

Tomorrow? Well, the forecast is for at least two days of no rain, so I plan to start trekking. The temperatures are going to be cold, and in the low thirties and no higher than the forties! Those imaginary mythological weather goods aren’t making it easy on me because it looks like it will be cold for the whole week, and even get close to freezing. Now is when I wished I had not shipped my down jacket back to Brian and Shirley, or turned down the offer to take my wool sweatshirt I had ordered and they picked up for me!

Two days will hopefully get me through the desert and to Turangi, 40 miles away. Turangi is a good size town and has lots of accommodations, restaurants, and stores. The next stretch will be interesting because of the weather and I’ll need to camp out one night.

After my evening mediation I plan to walk to the cafe and have some Chinese noddles I have been carving. Then back here and read my book.

Best wishes to all,

Ted

Please excuse the typos, spelling, grammar, etc., as I am typing this on my phone, and I am probably pretty tired.
