Ted,
I’d like to inquire after your modified PCT hike map. I am in the preliminary stages of planning a LD trek, which will lead to others and noticed you had done a modified PCT, I’m guessing due to your Wheelie. Any tips you can provide would be most useful. Thanks,

Hi Ruth, I am not sure I know what you mean with a LD trek?

Hi Ted, I just subscribed, and I wondered what kind of trekking poles you used. Thanks and Walk Well!

Hi Ed,
I have two pairs of Lekis, but there many are other good ones too. I have regular aluminum ones and carbon fiber ones. Both are good, but the carbon fiber ones are lighter.
I would recommend that they at least have carbine tips, and shock absorbers. The carbon tips dig into rocks and other hard surfaces, whereas rubber tips tend to slip. I have rubber caps that I place on the tips when around town, plus the rubber tips are great to leave on to prevent transport damage. The shock absorbers ease the fatigue of the constant pounding you feel in your arms after long use.
The third suggestion would be to get the lightest ones you can afford. Even though it may only be ounces different, after a long hike you will feel the difference.
Mine both have quick lock and twist lock adjustments. These are really a matter of preference.
Whatever you choose, you may never go back to hiking without them, like me!

Good morning, Ted! I know all about poles, trekking, Nordic Walking, cross country skiing, and alpine skiing poles! I am a Certified Master Nordic Walking Instructor, Certified by Levi, The American Nordic Walking Association and Exerstrider. I have several pairs of Leki Nordic Walking poles and trekking poles (my favorite is the Leki carbon fiber Travelers Nordic Walking poles). Currently I am using Exerstriders Nordic Walking poles as I like their ergonomic handles without straps! Tom Rutlin, the owner of Exerstriders is also a personal friend of mine. I was just curious as to what poles you used for your treks. You might want to try the Exerstriders poles as you might also like their handles without straps! Walk Well! Ed Urbanski
