Oregon Day 10

Hello Everyone,

Well, I am still in Reno and was suppose to start back on my trek tomorrow but may end up staying for one more day.

I attempted to buy all my food staples today and was unable to find several of them that were sold out. I may not be near any stores until Susanville, which could be six or seven days, and want to make sure I have enough food just in case. I went to REI and spent some time today trying out various types of shoes with a wider toe box that put less pressure on the blisters of my little toes. I bought some new stronger tent stakes, blister bandages, Body Glide anti-blister lotion, energy bars, and much of my freeze dried food. I ended up buying a new pair of Merrell shoes with the widest toe box that they have and wore them this afternoon and evening. They feel really good and did not bother my blister areas, but want to try them a little longer before I leave.

I received some additional supplies today that Mindee sent me, but I did not get the new solar charger that was suppose to arrive today by overnight delivery. I will try and find the rest of the food I will need in the morning and continue wearing the new shoes. I have to remind myself that I am not in a rush and being prepared is more important in the long run. Giving my body and feet some more rest wouldn’t hurt if I stay one more day anyway. I will keep you posted tomorrow with a blog update.

Oh yes, the dinner I was invited to was very nice and it was good to be with nice company. Interesting thing, one of the men that I met there, Rayan, is a firefighter and works for Washoe County and knows the firefighters that I met and helped me out two days ago. He had worked the station and was going to call up the two captains and tell them that he met me.

And as a special treat after dinner, Monet’s father offered to let us use his two Razor ATVs to ride in the mountains behind his home, which ate miles open forest land. Riding in the mountains above the City of Reno in the evening with the sight and beauty of the city lights was a special treat for me. Riding back in the dark on steep terrain was also a thrill for me. I look at it as all part of my trek adventure.

As always, thank you for sending positive thoughts and prayers. Please excuse the typos, grammar, spelling, etc.

Ted
