Timaru (Zero Day)

Today was a zero day, my first day of not trekking in ten straight days, and the fourth day of not trekking since I started. I waited too long to take a zero day since I shouldn’t wait until I feel I am out if energy, rather than every five to six days as I should. I have already trekked about 294 miles (474 kms) in twenty days, averaging almost 15 miles (24.15 kms) per day.

It felt great to sleep in and have a causal morning. It felt good enough to stay another day, but that could turn into another day, and then another, and so on.

I really didn’t do anything other than have breakfast at a cafe and go to the market to buy supplies for the trek tomorrow. The rest of the day I watched a little Netflix and just laid in bed.

I did talk to a nice couple from Minnesota this morning that I met the night before. They had asked me to join them for diner and some wine, but I pretty tired and was ready to get to bed early. Hopefully I’ll run into them again on my way north as they will be going the same way at the end of their trip.

Tomorrow I’ll head to Winchester, where there is a motorcamp, and also the alternate route that I was considering to bypass Christchurch. I am undecided as the alternate route is about 35-40 miles, or two days, further. It also has a lot more steep climbs. I’ll make that decision tomorrow, but for now will enjoy my down time and go back to watching the movie.

Best wishes to all,

Ted

Please excuse the typos, spelling, grammar, etc., as I am typing this on my phone, and I am probably pretty tired.

Sunset tonight

Corn fritters. I had to have a picture of something it did today!

Hey Ted! It was fun talking to you a couple of times in Timaru. You recommended Shag Point—we went there and it was well worth it!! We hope you keep going and stay safe!

      Hi you two,

Glade you went and enjoyed it! It was fun to meet and talk to you.

Today was a tough day for me as it it 95 degrees!

Couldn’t post my blog tonight because the cell service isn’t very good here.

Hopefully you’ll see me on the road when you are going back. Remember, don’t stop to talk to me unless you have something cold to offer me! Ha ha!

      Enjoy your journey!
