Trek Across The USA (May 7, 2020)

Hello Everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new on my blog site and I just wanted to send this message out to those of you that might be wondering if I was planning another trek, which I actually had! My goal for this year was to complete a trek from my home here in Santa Paula, California, to the East Coast of the USA. I had planned on starting my trek the first of April, 2020, and I was about two weeks from starting it when all the issues with the pandemic made me realize that it would not be a prudent trek to complete at this time.

My goal was to try and complete my trek in about five months, depending on which route I had planned to take. The middle or northern part of the country ending towards the northeast states may have been approximately 3,200 miles or so, and a southern route towards Florida may have been approximately a thousand miles less. I was leaning towards the southern route for the shorter distance, but also to avoid the steep climbs over the mountains, and lastly to avoid the bigger cities I would have encountered.

This, like my last trek, was also going to be dedicated as a fund raiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, and to raise awareness of the disease of dementia, or as some think of as Alzheimer’s. I had hoped to raise a lot of money for an organization that’s dear to my heart because the support I got through the Alzheimer’s Association which helped me greatly when I was dealing with my mother, who died from the complications of dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association was going to help in getting me some publicity across the country, so that would have been great in getting donations. There will actually be a story in the June, 2020, Alzheimer’s Magazine, that comes out quarterly, which will feature a story about me trekking as a fundraiser.

Hopefully next year things will settle down and I will still be able to complete my goal of trekking across the USA. We will all, however, be another year older, but of course a year wiser too, so that is a positive. Ha ha!

Best wishes to all, Ted

Alzheimer’s Magazine Story

Hello everyone. As you might know, my last trek on the Camino Portugues was done to raise the awareness of the disease of dementia, or as some people refer to as Alzheimer’s. it is a disease that affects people of all walks of life (excuse the pun) and from all over the world. I also dedicated my trek in memory of my mother, Henriette Stekkinger, who passed away from complications of the disease.

I had hoped to complete a trek across the USA this last March to continue to raise the awareness of Alzheimer’s, and raise money for Alzheimer’s Association’s excellent work in helping help affected by the disease, and in the research for a cure.

I’ve attached a story about my trek in support of raising awareness of dementia that was published in the current issue of the Alzheimer’s Magazine.

Hopefully I will still be able to continue my trek in the future as all will be done in support of the Alzheimer’s Association and their wonderful work. And as I mentioned, my treks are also to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, but even though under the current conditions I may not be able to trek, you can always contribute monetarily anytime.

Best wishes to all,

Ted

Wonderful hearing news from you Ted! I think the deep south route is maybe not a good idea, but you know best!
