Oregon Day 22

Hello Everyone,

Tonight I am camped off of SR 139, about 2.5 miles north of the junction of County Road 91 and about 60 miles from Klamath Falls, Oregon. I am still in the National Forest boundaries and it is fairly heavily forested, so it was easy to find a camp site. The day was nice and went well, with no real issues other than my troublesome left foot.

I was hoping to make it to the Ag Inspection Station and get water tonight. I ended up dumping one gallon bottle because I did not want to pull the extra weight and I figure to be at the Ag Station before the end of the day. I am not going to rely too much on directions or estimates of mileage because it can be frustrating. Floyd had told me that the Ag Station was only 17-19 miles from his house, and I have gone nearly twenty and haven’t run across it yet. I didn’t want to keep going because it may actually be a few more miles? I had the same thing with Scott Humphrey, who told me it was only 23 miles to Susanville from where we were standing, and after going three miles, I saw two signs noting it was 25 more miles. Those miles don’t matter much in a car, but can be hours walking.

I left Floyd’s after a good nights sleep, and of course a little late because I had to say my goodbye and thank you. The road was mostly gentle rolling up and downs, with no real steep grades. It was all through National Forest land and thick with trees. I saw numerous deer and one large bobcat that ran across the road about twenty feet I front of me. Traffic was light on CR 91, but is a little busier once I turned onto SR 139 since it’s the main road to Klamath Falls.

The weather was nice today because it was cloudy and never got over eighty and there was a slight wind to my back. The weather calls for a chance of rain tomorrow, Wednesday, and a greater chance Thursday. I hope to make Newell tomorrow, which is about twenty miles, because there may be a motel there? I prefer my tent, but would rather hold up in a motel if it rains more than one day. Wish me luck!

There is no service here and I am hoping that there will be as I get closer to Newell. I will send and hopefully it will go out sometime. I have ATT Wireless and it’s been frustrating because in all those dead areas for ATT, people were still getting service from Verizon.

Please keep sending me your positive thoughts and prayers. Please excuse the typos, grammar, spelling, etc.

Ted
